Getting the most out of a compact flat

Small layout changes, big difference

Often the biggest improvement costs very little: turning a door to open the other way, using a sliding door where a swing door blocks the room, or moving a wardrobe so the bedroom is not cut in half.

Use the height

Loft storage over the kitchen and above doors, a bed with hydraulic storage, a wardrobe that runs to the ceiling. Floor area is limited, wall height is not.

One calm palette

Light walls, one wood tone and a few simple materials make a small flat look larger. Too many colours and patterns make it look smaller.

Furniture of the right size

Many people buy a sofa for the showroom and not for the room. We check sizes against the drawing before anything is ordered.

Damp and humidity near the creek

Parts of Mira Bhayander sit close to the creek and the coast, and ground and lower floors can stay damp through the monsoon. We use moisture-resistant boards for kitchen and bathroom-side carpentry, leave a small ventilation gap behind wardrobes, and do not put wooden panelling on a wall that seeps. It is worth checking this before you spend on finishes.
