How to Choose the Best Interior Designer in Mumbai
There is no honest ranking of the best interior designers in Mumbai, because the best one is the one that fits your flat, your budget and the way you live. What you can do is check each designer against the same list. This is the list we would use if we were hiring one.
We are an interior design studio in Malwani, Malad West, and we obviously want you to consider us. So we have kept this guide plain: use it on us too.
1. See finished work, and talk to a past client
Pictures and 3D renders are easy to produce. Ask for completed projects in flats like yours, and ask for a phone number of someone who lived through the work. Ask them about delays, surprises and how problems were handled. Our projects gallery shows completed work.
2. Ask for an itemised BOQ, not one number
A lump-sum quote hides what you are paying for. A good BOQ lists materials, brands or grades, quantities, labour and design fees line by line. It lets you compare two designers fairly and shows where to cut if the budget is tight. Read how interior cost is decided.
3. See the design before work starts
A 3D design and a material board you approve in writing mean fewer arguments later. If a designer starts work from a rough sketch, expect changes mid-way and bills to go with them.
4. Check who actually does the work
Some firms design in-house and give the work to a contractor you never meet. Ask who is on site every day, who the carpenters are, and who you call when something is wrong.
5. Get the warranty in writing
Ask what is covered, for how long, and who comes if a hinge fails or a laminate lifts. Our interior work carries a 5-year workmanship warranty. Hardware and appliances carry the manufacturer's warranty.
6. Understand how changes are handled
Changes happen. The question is whether they are written down with a price before the work is done. We document every change as a variation before it proceeds.
7. Ask about your society and your building
Mumbai societies set working hours, deposits and lift rules, and old buildings hide old wiring and leaks. A designer who has worked in your kind of building will ask about these before quoting.
8. Agree the payment schedule
Payments should follow progress, not run ahead of it. Be careful of a large advance before any design is shown.
